Inspiration- & sketchbook for Huitlacoche

This collection was inspired by Mexican influences and Frida Kahlo. The name comes from the Spanish word Huitlacoche, which is the word for a Mexican  plant disease, a fungus that invades the corn. The fungus however, despite its rough look, is enjoyed as a great delicacy in various Mexican dishes.

My idea was to translate this fundamentality by using second-hand fabrics and fabric scratches to create new garments and details for them.  The disease that invades the corn suddenly turns it into a great delicacy -and the unusable fabric strips, which are considered as ugly trash, can be turned into a fantastic embroidery.
